Piles

Strong winds continued today and the sunflowers have suffered badly - the needed to be removed.  The Russian Giant variety had suffered most, it had stems as thick as my arm, extraordinarily tall and with large flower heads but its root system was surprisingly small.  All a matter of compromise.

The blip is of one of the heads.  The birds seem to have helped themselves.

I needed to use tree lopers to chop the plants into manageable sizes.  One pile of heads for the birds, one pile of thick stalks and leaves and one pile of roots.  I seem to be entering a period of uncharacteristic tidiness in gardening tasks.  Weird.
