Java Man

A bit of a disturbed night......but not too bad.
Woke up to overcast skies so we spent the morning chatting, reading the papers, looking at cruises ;-)

We had an egg and bacon sandwich for brunch before settling down to watch the footy........a great game for the neutral, think a draw would have been a fair result myself ;-)

It's poured all day......we had a very lazy day really, ordered a Chinese takeaway for 4....it was very nice too, not something we have often! Then it was more sitting around.......then it did stop raining, so hub and I decided we wanted to stretch our legs, so a walk it was.

Hub took me to see where his old primary school is, it's changed a little but still the same apparently :-) we had a good wander for best part of an hour....it was almost dark by the time we got back to sis in laws.

We watched TV for the remainder of the evening and it was only as I was commenting on someone else's blip that I realised I hadn't taken a single picture.......so here you have my dear old father in laws Java Man.

He has sat on sis in laws sideboard since dad passed away. Dad brought him back from Ceylon in the early 1940s. He'd been in Trincomalee (a city in Sri Lanka) and was heading back to their boat with his various souvenirs, when he saw a local man on the dock carving this figure from a piece of wood. He asked him if he would swap and traded one of his purchases for the carving, which he christened Java Man.

It's a nice example of craftsmanship and brings back fond memories whenever we look at it :-)
