I joined a heartwarming and informative summit in Birmingham to celebrate the past year of groups around the country coming together to support the resettlement of refugee families, mostly Syrians who are under the official government scheme. It's been just over a year since the refugee crisis really entered the public's consciousness when images of Alan Kurdi dead on that Turkish beach were projected around the world.

As well as celebrating the compassion shown to refugees, the summit had a practical focus as groups shared experiences in working with councils, lobbying for government decisions and widening the response to and welcome for refugee families in communities across the country. Definitely some useful contacts made and ideas gathered for our Cambridge group. Hideously grim weather in Birmingham so definitely more inspiring inside the summit hall.
