Uncoveries Revisited

You may recall my opinion of whoever covered the original brick paving of the kitchen courtyard with several inches of chippings and gravel.

Discovering a manhole cover under the gravel & chippings takes the sighs of exasperation to a whole new level.

Rather curiously... (yes, there's a Dell House 'hmmm' moment coming)... there are two drains feeding into the access chamber.  One makes perfect sense. The other... nope, no idea.
