Planet Arc!

The first Blip for today is of the Tasmanian Devil, a dog like animal that once roamed the southern parts of Australia. As a volunteer we visited "Planet Arc" which is in the process of breeding the Tasmanian Devil which is at the point of extinction. The Tasmanian Devil has existed since the last ice age and is rather like a small dog. They are aggressive in protecting their young and food. They are capable of eating 40% of their body weight in one sitting. The blip shows a mother in a hide protecting it's two young. The second shot is of another native of Australia called an Ekidna, very like a European Hedge Hog. Frequently seen on the side or crossing roads, they are an outgoing mammal. The last shot is of another native Australian Mammal called a Wombat. Wombats generally are non aggressive. If they feel they are isolated, they will be aggressive and attack. They attack using a very hard head and nip, not bite.
