horns of wilmington's cow

Legendary

The extra is a better shot (as I waited for a cycling advocacy event to pass underneath me), but it's not often you meet a footballing legend, and even if he was partly responsible for England doing so poorly in Euro '88, it was a pleasure to listen to Packie Bonner, former Ireland and Celtic keeper, speaking at the book festival.

Mellifluous, perfect word for his voice. His current role as a motivational speaker did leak out sometimes, but you could forgive him. All compered by Gerry McDade, who helped write the book, and was a decent enough host. In the centre of the pic is my mate Fi. Dublin lad, Celtic daft, happy to meet a hero, and also got some tips for comedy clubs in Glasgow from Gerry for his burgeoning stand-up career.

As good as the chance to listen to Packie was the opportunity to have a couple of pints with Fi after, catching up, comparing open mic experiences (he with the comedy, me with poetry) and watch the fireworks for the end of the Festival as we did so, was just as good, if not better.

Cracking night.
