Today's the day .......................... for a parallel universe

Things have been slightly surreal today.

I've been on duty at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre - which many might say is pretty other-worldly at the best of times.  But today there has been a convention - a huge gathering of people interested in buying or selling (or just simply looking at) all that is available in the world of model railways.  And I can tell you that the lengths most enthusiasts will go to replicate the big world out there, beggars belief.

What's more - it's all deadly serious.  Don't be tempted to think that the model railway layouts are like toys - to be enjoyed and played with by the young.  Every one was surrounded by a perimeter fence and lots of notices warning against the temptation to touch any of the little masterpieces to be found therein.  The only person who gets to play is the model railway designer/construction engineer.

Fortunately, they don't mind if you take pictures - and in fact, they seem quite chuffed.  So that's how I managed the above .....................
