Gawsworth New Hall
We were over in Macclesfield today visiting Julia and Sam and our lovely new granddaughter Alice Olivia.
On our way home we had a walk around the village of Gawsworth.
This is Gawsworth New Hall - started in 1707 by Lord Mohun but abandoned after his death in a duel with the Duke of Hamilton in 1712 in which both men were killed.
It was later occupied by one of the last professional jesters in the country " Maggoty Johnson" as a gift to him by the Lord of manor.
The current Gawsworth New Hall has been created from the original 18th century Grade II listed building and provides a variety of luxury apartments, all appointed to a very high standard.
