Over Black Gold!
Today was bright and sunny as we drove to watch our grand son play football at a town called Kurri Kurri about 80 kilometres south east the town is in the heart of what was the early coal mining area. With town names like Cardiff, Abernathy and many more name which were bought out by the miners from Wales. Along with the miners came a strong union which fought for the rights of the miners. The owner of the mines used the support of the law when they introduced Scab (non union) labor. The inscription does not go close to explain the bitter fight which followed. The town of Kurri Kurri has been slowly reinventing it's and its image by the use of paint and public art. The first extra shot is of a mural on the side of a hotel depicting a coal mining theme. The second photo is a real life situation, several years ago there was a photo and article in the Newcastle Herald of a cricket match with a ferocious bush fire not far from the boundary. Well we all know how fanatical the Aussies and Poms are with their cricket, well the match continued. Hope your day is warm and sunny.
