Unexpected Guests

Deer roam freely around Port Townsend, and during our week at the rental cottage, we had several visits from a doe with twin fawns, no doubt drawn by the many fruit trees in the yard.

The female fawn found me more interesting than watching her brother scratch the itchy spots on his head where his horns were budding. I was able to get much closer than I'd expected to this delightful pair, while their mother grazed nearby.

We have deer wandering through our neighborhood at home, too, but I've never been able to get so near them. There must be something in the Port Townsend air that makes the difference!
