Ended too soon
The sun set on a glorious day in the Olympics. We'd taken Mum and Dad up to town on the second day of their visit to be a part of the Olympic fever. And what a glorious day it turned out to be on every count.
Sun - always shines on the righteous!.
Company - met lots of friends - bonus.
Food - hadn't realised you could use the word scrumptious about a sandwich - thanks Hugh, Ang & Leah!
Location - perfect - sitting in the sun watching a mahoosive screen with the crowds.
Olympics - 3 gold medals! - History witnessed.
Home. Smiles all round to counter the sore feet, aching calves and joints, bad hips (dad fell over...again!) and rumbling tummies. Chip butties for supper. Sorted.
All worth it. One of those magical days...like ones you remember having as a kid when you were never quite sure if you own grandad was for real, or making it up as he went along....conversations I anticipate having with identical plot but different cast.
"Gandad.....were you alive when we won the Olympics?"
"Well wee man....we were all sat in Potter's Field by Tower Bridge, your grandma, me, your greatgrandpa and greatgrandma as the sun was setting over London Bridge, when a wee lass no bigger than my thumbnail, what was her name again?, Jessica Ennis, I'll always remember, ......."
