South of the island
This morning it was very windy and as we had planned to go to the local beach we decided to rather head off south of the island where there would hopefully be less wind. We have been pleasantly surprised at the high standard of the infrastructure here, the motorways, roads, bridges and tunnels are all excellent. Driving from the north to the south of the island on the motorway only takes about 30 minutes.
We decided to go to Puerto de Mogán, a very picturesque old fishing village that has a lovely beach. Although we did notice more English tourists in the south, it is still predominately Spanish, either Canarians or people from mainland Spain who holiday here.
The village was as pretty as expected with a canal, bridges and a very protected bay for swimming. The boys (including the old boy!) all went on a water sport activity package that included parasailing, fly board and jet skiing. As they were taken to the next door bay by boat I could not watch the activities but stayed on the sun lounger on the beach reading in the shade. They had a great time although it was quite badly organised and took almost 4 hours when we thought it would only be about an hour's activity as each event was only 10 minutes long. Health and Safety regulations were not quite up to the British standard - for example, Thomas was given a jetski to drive with only a one sentence of basic instructions of how to operate it before being sent on his way. I have added extra photos of Mogán.
On the way home we stopped off at the Maspalomas sand dunes where I took this image (and an added extra) We got there at about 7.30pm when the light was soft and the sand was cool enough to walk on.
More fabulous performances from the GB athletes and more medals including gold ones. They may just meet their target of 48 medals.
