Armageddon

A backblip from the last day of our short break in Suffolk (still trying to catch up)

Orford Ness is a place like few others, it's the largest shingle spit in Europe.  Access is by boat and controlled by the NT. It has a sinister past, from a distance you can see the remains of buildings left to decay. There’s an old listening post, a pepper pot lighthouse which may soon be swallowed by the sea, a black watch tower and other ex military buildings. Many are AWRE, atomic weapon research establishments. Some of their stories will apparently never be revealed. Orford Ness was used in the last century as a testing ground for British ordinance.  It was used for live firing tests as well as vibration tests of triggers for early atomic bombs.  Now the buildings are left to decay and the flora, fauna and wildlife are left to their own devices. It is a flat barren place, silent but for the wind and has an atmosphere I have never experienced before.
My blip, bought back the feeling I felt when standing looking out from one of the derelict AWRE test houses; the view through the gates is what I thought earth could look like if these weapons continue to be developed and are ever used, Armageddon !

Pics in extra are a little less harsh but my choice is simply a reflection of my memory.
