Secret Garden

I cycled to my allotment this evening. It is not far but takes me along some small twisting lanes lined with trees which arch over them to create a natural tunnel. I watered the plants and noted three more mole hills!; then stopped and listened to the birds for a few minutes - I could hear goldfinches singing. By 8:30pm the light was fading and I had to beat a hasty retreat home. As I was nearly back a roe deer trotted across the road into the woods. I usually see a fox on this stretch of road but not this evening.

This picture is of another allotment which borders my plot. It is my favourite plot on our site as it is large and secluded and has two greenhouses. The lady who rents it uses it to grow flowers. This year it has got rather overgrown so her husband has been working hard these past few weekends to clear it. It is like watching a secret garden being revealed!
