Time for a blip..!

This very handsome clock is on the front of Hythe Town Hall-the ships and markings on the side indicate that Hythe was one of the original Cinque (pronounced 'sink' ) ports.
Along with Sandwich , Dover, New Romney and Hastings these 5 ports were allowed by Edward the Confessor to keep all their legal and marine fees in return for providing ships and sailors to repel the Norse Invasion.
Many other south and east coast ports were added until there were as many as 33 Cinque Ports-time for a Maths lesson...?!!
