Same scene but over a century apart

Long time since I've done one of these pictures combining old pictures of the town where I live with a current image. Although I knew where this old picture dating back to the early 1900s was taken, it was difficult to know the exact vantage point from which it was taken as very few of the buildings till remain as I believe the high street was widened when they introduced trams in the 1930s. The trick when this happens is to be selective about which parts of the new image that you reveal so that you get a blend that looks OK even if it might in reality be slightly out of sync.

One thing that you notice with many of these old photographs is that people tend to be staring at the camera presumably because seeing a man with a camera taking pictures in the street was a very rare sight. If they could only see us now, taking loads of pictures daily and in most cases, i.e. those using their phones, of nothing really snap worthy. The current young generation must be the most photographed generation ever.
