Trump Turnberry

The weather was wonderful today. Bright, sunny and warm.

Jackson, our host, advised us to take the scenic coastal route which took us via Dunure and Maidens. Marvellous views of the sea, of Arran and Ailsa Craig.

We reached as far south as Dipple where there was a welcome tea room and a stunning view of Ailsa Craig, a remnant of a pluton which emerges from the sea like a pimple. Uninhabited now, it is a bird sanctuary for gannets, kittiwakes, puffins and the like.

Returning to Ayr on the main road, we were forced to pass this golf course. So 'in your face.' But it was the venue for the very recent British Women's Open Golf Championship sponsored by Ricoh.

I like the way how, if you look closely at the sign, the black background isn't uniform. Somebody cut corners on costs there.

Jackson also recommended The Savoy Cafe Bistro in Ayr for civilised eating. Basil was made welcome, there were gluten free options and we were able to drink wine. Rather a change from the greasy spoon cafes we are often forced to frequent with the dog, if he's allowed in at all.

The food was excellent. Support Euan at The Savoy!
