Annandale Geese
The last time I was at Annandale was in January when a thaw was setting in. This service area on the M74 lies in countryside near Lockerbie. There's a very nice terrace to sit on overlooking the lake. Except that I couldn't get there this time because we had Basil with us - which meant we had to sit outside the front.
The lake had been frozen in January.
The geese are still going strong. As you can tell from the photo, they've had goslings. I suspect these belong to a younger brood as there were other birds that didn't look quite as big as the adults. They also had darker feathers.
Since this was a holiday weekend, the services were packed. A note of levity was attempted with two notices to drivers. The first, as the driver approaches, says, 'Caution: Geese Crossing!' The second notice displays, 'Yes, we did say geese!'
We were driving to Ayr on the west coast of Scotland. We arrived at the guest house just 100 m from the beach after eight hours on the road. Too tired to go out and try to find somewhere to eat. Our hosts made us welcome. We had a G&T and fell asleep, although I did attempt a photo of the sunset over the Isle of Arran.
Backblipping all this week.
