A Good Year For The Roses, Aylesford

One of my all time favourite songs is "A Good Year For The Roses" by Elvis Costello. He's a brilliant lyricist and songwriter, full of wit, anger, intelligence and melancholy. The only song of his I love more than this is "Alison" - one of the most beautiful songs ever written in the English language.
For the past two weeks or so I've been woken by the discordant cackle of seagulls instead of the usual lovely dawn chorus. It's like being woken by being bashed over the head with a brick rather than gently tapped on the temple with a velvet cushion. I've no idea why this has suddenly happened but at four o'clock in the morning you certainly notice the difference!
