My Best Efforts - Year 3

Burrowing Owl.......................

.....................seen at Long Sutton Butterfly Farm. This is the smallest owl (weighing an average of only 6 ounces) in the Americas. Can be seen as far north as Canada and as far south as South America. It lives underground (hence it's name) and when threatened by a predator, makes a hissing sound like a snake.
Such a pretty little bird and quite gentle if not in danger.
I am showing the back of the bird because the markings are so nice.

Anni and I had gone to Long Sutton today where she had about an hour and three quarters learning all about the feeding, weighing, handling etc of birds of prey and she flew 4 different ones - it was difficult to choose which of the photos I took to submit.

We went round the Butterfly House but there were less flying around than usual as it was a bit cloudy . It then started to rain but luckily enough it stopped and the sun came out just before the session with the birds. Then a meal when the skies opened. The weather was kind to us as we were under cover every time it rained and we had a really pleasant day.

Sadly, the place is closing in September due the rising costs of heating, feedstuff and every thing else - it really is terrible shame. Nearly all the animals, birds and reptiles have found new homes.

Yesterday," Little Donkey" reached the Spotlight Page and I would like to thank everyone responsible for putting him/her there. Many, many thanks again and Brays from the Donkey! :-))) Alma.
