Gladiola, genus Gladiolus.
This is the flower of the Roman Gladiators and represents strong moral character. Also named 'Sword Lily' after it's weapon shaped leaves. It hails from the Middle East and belongs to the lily family. Gladiola corms were used as a poultice to remove splinters, also powdered and mixed with goats milk to lessen the effect of colic.
