Elizabethan Coins
Looking around for a a coin related subject I remembered mum saying she had got a commemorative coin, which turned out to be a Diamond Jubilee 50p piece. Searching her collection of books, I also found a book on Elizabethan England with some pictures of coinage of the realm.
The Angel was 22 carat gold and worth 10 shillings, the annual wage of a maid servant. The 10 shilling note was replaced by the 50p during decimalisation in 1971 - and might just have provided a tip for a hotel maid!
So here are 2 coins with the same monetary value from the reigns of 2 Queen Elizabeth's separated by over 400 years.
