Gulls' Lucky Supper

Evening tide strands helpless mackerel;
for hungry gulls, an easy catch.
A frenzy of feeding and off they fly,
every fresh fish dispatched.

By this afternoon the sun came out, so Daur and I headed for Blackpool Sands. Pretty cold wind, but it was OK with the windbreak hammered into the sands and our jackets on. We did brave a paddle, too.

Great excitement before we came home when the sea delivered a whole load of small mackerel above the tide line. The gulls - adults and juveniles - wasted no time in tucking in to their windfall tiderise supper. See Extras, too.

It began to rain just as we arrived home, but now, though still blowing a gale, the sun's come out in time to set. So beach-buddy time achieved, even if we didn't swim. (Temperatures and sunshine aside, the sea was too rough in the strong winds.)
