Team Butterfly has arrived at the training camp!
I will confess that this reporter has been just a little concerned that the Butterfly Team hadn't yet shown up at the AOG NJ Stadium - but today they arrived and immediately set about practicing fluttering, nectaring, proboscis twirling, and pollen-snogging. I must say that they are looking in fine shape (well, other than a bit of wing having been nibbled from one of Team Tiger Swallowtail.).
From upper left clockwise: female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (showing the team's ethnic diversity), Giant Swallowtail, Skipper (Peck's I think), and the King of the team - the Monarch! There were also several other skippers and cabbage whites, working out alongside both of the clearwing moth teams.
Although it Madame Nursery Web Spider was looking like butter woudn't melt in her mouth, we did find some alarming evidence in the Buddliea Cafe that Team Spider was not adhering to the non-predation rules. Unfortunately, the culprit couldn't be found, no doubt hiding. Meanwhile, Team Ode and Team Clearwing had a bit of a showdown over an especially desirable seat at the bar. Team Ode had to surrender, but they've vowed revenge. Oh dear.
Here in the Western Hemisphere, we are a short 48 hours from Opening Day of the AOG2016 (less for you folks in OZ and NZ) and I am thoroughly enjoying all the terrific coverage from my fellow journalists around the globe. If you haven't had a chance to catch up on the news from the various Olympic training camps, please do check out the link - laughs and gasps of delight are guaranteed!
Remember, starting on Opening Day, tag your photos with AOG followed by the date (AOG5, AOG6, etc). This will allow all of us to find all the entries easily and to keep track on a daily basis of the goings on. Wild creatures are the focus of the AOG, but all multi-legged (or no-legged) things area welcome.
Cheers, from the AOG NJ Olympic Stadium...
