Sunset

Capturing the sheer beauty of sunset calls for an element of photographic skills, yet often the resulting image is obtained by sheer luck.
You have to be in the right place and the sky and cloud has to be just right to make a visual impact.  And you need to have your camera at the ready.
Because, the setting of the sun happens very quickly, and its reflection on the cloud changes by the minute.  I’ve learned by experience that if you have to dash indoors to get your camera, by the time you are back out in the garden, the sun will have sunk lower over the horizon, and the brilliant hues reflected on the cloud formation will have changed, or disappeared altogether.
Driving back from town just the other day, quite suddenly a gap on the skyline promised one of the most startling urban sunsets I have seen lately.  By the time I had found somewhere safely to pull over, the view of the sunset through rooftops and trees  had changed. And the visual impact had died in any event.

So patience and anticipation are the two key factors in my book. Oh, and having the camera or iPhone to hand.
