Squashed flat

While doing some tidying in the garden I found this magnolia cone squashed flat in next doors driveway. It exposed the seeds inside. You all know what that means- another one for my seed collection.

The fibres in the middle of this cone hold the seed until it is flattened or dries enough that they open and release their load.All so different.

There are two magnolias in their garden= grandiflorum is one but I can't guarantee that is the tree it came from.
