Lest we forget!

On my way back from yesterdays shot I drove past the towns Memorial Grove. Due mainly to a number of returned solders, the grove is in existence. the main Blip is of a substantial memorial to those that served and died in the Vietnam War. The memorial grove stretches for almost a 2 kilometre of highway, every section is dedicated to an Australian military action. Each section has a plaque stating the action and the number who died. The second photo is a shot looking along part of the grove.
About eighteen months ago I was volunteering at the local visitors centre, a lady came in after directions covering the west of the state. I provided the maps and info and explained on the wall map where she was going. As she was about to leave, she turned and said, "I love the commitment your community has in recognising soldiers who have lost there lives, fighting for our country". "I love your Memorial Grove", we kept on walking to the door. We were almost at the door and she said "my son died in Afghanistan about two months ago, I'm on my way back from his funeral on the north coast". I had no words that could appreciate her loss, I put out my arms and we held each other. When I stood in the grove today, I remembered the moment and had tears in my eyes.
