Compliments Of The Bird Feeder
We've had bird feeders up for the neighbourhood birds for ages and they are much loved, judging by the number of times we.have to refill them. However, one sunflower seed appears to have escaped both the birds and the mice and has produced this rather beautiful flower.
It was a hot Monday here (just over 29°C when I left our office) and really busy for a Monday.
I got given a little program to write with a typical explanation of make it do this and this, but not this. A nice challenge that ate the afternoon and was impemented about 2 hours after I started. I really like problem solving.
And now for the Don't-Read-This-If-You-Think-The-Word."Fart"-Isn't-Funny bit. Seriously, if the word "fart" makes you think "how childish", then go and do something else, Fartface you probably do have better things to do.
However, the rest of you sniggering at the idea of the word can stay and we can learn a bit more about the marvellous German language.
You see the word "Fahrt" everywhere in Germany and this is great if you like fart jokes. And if you've read this far, you do. We have a holiday called Christi Himmelfahrt (Ascension Day), there are signs on every Autobahn that say "Ausfahrt", you can have a Bergfahrt (trip up a mountain), a Zugfahrt (journey on a train), a Flussfahrt (river trip), buses even display a sign saying "Leerfahrt" which means going back to the depot and not picking up passengers ("Leer" means "empty"). And I could be fahrting around here all night giving you the complete list.
Today I discovered possibly the best fahrt of them all.
I found out that the one of the words for "airflow" is "der Fahrtwind" - which, if you'll excuse me, is somewhat over egging the fart joke bit but is nonetheless my Word Of The Day.
All of which nonsense can distract me from the horrific news from Ansbach.
