New Zealand Bellbird
John Key has announced a plan for a predator-free New Zealand. We have enjoyed a miraculous explosion in our native bird population at Lake Tarawera over the last dozen years as a result of the work of a team of volunteers regularly baiting rat bait stations and recording bait consumption . We wake to the chimes of these beautiful bellbirds and enjoy their altered song in daylight hours too. Tui, native pigeon and rifleman are among the other delights visiting the garden.
This painting by Ivor Fry shows our beautiful bellbird.
