Pres Dwight D. Eisenhower
When Pres. Eisenhower left office in 1961, he bought a farm in Gettysburg, along the western edge of the battlefields. He is reported to have loved the history here and the countryside. He and his wife, Mimi, refurbished the home and the farm. He lived there until he died in 1969.
Mimi lived there and the farm continued until she died in 1979, at which time the home and farm were donated to the Gettysburg Battlefield historians and conservators. Today, you can go to the Historic Visitor Center at Gettysburg and purchase a bus tour to go to the farm, go through the house and the farm. It is not open to the general public.
The extra is the working Eisenhower farm.
