Sally Mair - Loving life

Carolside

Today we visited the gardens at Carolside, just north of Earlston on the banks of the River Leader. Beautiful gardens with a huge collection of pre -1900 roses in a stunning walled garden. This rose was not actually part of the collection but was against the wall of the house.
Damask roses,  moss roses,  gallica roses, alba roses so many different types and shades.  The accents after the rain were fabulous. The collection includes the Jacobite rose, the Lancaster red rose,  the York white rose amongst others.  Some of the rose varieties date back to pre 1600.
There are other herbaceous beds,  vegetable gardens,  herb garden and a beautiful river side walk.  Lovely teas too with fab baking and strawberries from the garden.
Well worth a visit. But be quick, the gardens are only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in June and July.
Extras today are of my tea cup - which may count as an implement for BikerBear's ff twist this week, otherwise the rose is a flower for Friday too. a peach in the greenhouse and a view of the garden.
