Leclerc monument, Utah Beach, Normandy
After an abortive attempt to drive to the southern end of Utah Beach - security measures for the TOUR DE FRANCE, which is causing havoc locally - I managed to reach the Leclerc monument.
This monument is in fact just to the north of Utah Beach. It commemorates (and is the site of) the arrival 1944 of the French 2nd Armoured Division under General Leclerc on 1st August 1944. On the 26th August the Division paraded through Paris.
The soldiers of the Division wore American uniforms and drove American tanks and other vehicles. This is a Sherman tank.
