Hanne Lene, Cakes and Ale

It's been the first really summery weather we have had in ages. Hot enough for a barbecue in the garden.
Yesterday was sunny but rather close. We went over to Cley where there was an art exhibition in the church. Cley church is a work of art in itself...the Mediterranean herb border sprawling elegantly beside the path up the slope to the heavy wooden door. I don't really have the vocabulary for church architecture but am able to appreciate the charm of this great handsome edifice, loved without being overly fussed over and evidently home to quite a range of community activities alongside its religious purpose.
One of the more intriguing exhibits was a series of sculptures made of bits of bone and skeleton (presumably animal bones, collected on walks) and carefully mounted in museum like cases. The first one or two were convincing goat like skulls with horns...then moving on, we came to one labelled "Angel", and another "Satan". Rather a surreal collection.
After the art show we went on to the Dun Cow in Salthouse for supper. On the way there we had a wonderful view of a Marsh Harrier circling low over the fields and hedges. Hugh Lupton was telling regional tales of fairies, imps and the supernatural in Cley so we went back later to hear him; and were transported over the hills and far away. A delightful event.
This morning we woke to bright sunshine which carried on all day. There's a fair bit to arrange with a big family gathering coming up here in a couple of weeks so much of the day was taken with a wood delivery and sorting out the garden. Late afternoon we had a break and then cooked sea bass and king prawns over charcoal, and this wonderful cake which HL had made from a recipe she found on the Guardian by Mary Berry, the Queen of British Bake Off.
