Grand Design

It has been the first day of Swiss O Week and we headed to S-Chanf in the company of some 4000+ international orienteers.  The Event Arena was in a beautiful setting, a wide glacial valley and home to a Swiss Army Barracks.  Apparently it is used as the base for the Swiss Ski Marathon.  Our runs began, high up on the hillside, in superb forest with very little rubbish on the ground and very technical with areas of open and much detail.  From there we dropped into the valley, around a settlement and in to a small forested area which again was very detailed on the ground.  Back out of there and across the river and an event bridge constructed over the highway (a touch shaky!) and we were in to another testing bit of forest before a long run in to the finish along the valley floor, taking in several controls en route.   Tony finished the day in 9th position out of 120+ which is really good.  I was beaten by clubmate Sue by three minutes and finished in 29th position out of 70+ so top half of the results, pleased with that!

After the event we took the shuttle back in to St Moritz, picked up a few bits of shopping and did some washing, then I took a walk higher up the hill behind our apartment to see what I could see.  It would seem that up the hill is where the well-to-do folks have their chalets, as can be seen in my blip!

More St Moritz blips here!

Each day, a group of talented young film makers put together a video of the day's race.  If you stop it at 58 seconds, you'll see me in the zone at the start!  The one with the grey hair!
