Ibis, the God of the South Bank, Brisbane

The African Sacred Ibis was an object of religious veneration in ancient Egypt, particularly associated with the deity Djehuty commonly referred to in Greek as 'Thoth', the god of writing, mathematics, measurement and time as well as the moon and magic. Thoth is sometimes depicted as an ibis-headed man absorbed in the act of writing.

The Ibis on South Bank, Brisbane don't seem that interested in higher pursuits. They're as common as pigeons here, waiting for crumbs dropped from the outdoor cafe tables. This one was waiting for a bit of carrot cake today as I sat with my friend Fay enjoying the river and the sunshine (What, eating cake again! I hear you say)
