Norwich
I had thought about joining the Cycle for Peace that was starting from the Peace Camp at the Forum today but by the time I had set to rather vigorously on the weeds and then the home had rung to say they were calling an ambulance for mum i headed over to Norwich not quite knowing what to expect. But the home rang back to say all was well so I went in to get flowers anyway. The cyclists had presumably headed off and what remained was this rather tragic looking few stalls and a couple of chaps singing randomly. It was a bit disheartening, I thought there might have been something that felt a bit more uniting after all that has been going on but it was shopping as usual. I'd like to say that's a dove winging its way in, but it's a seagull looking for scraps.
Mum wasn't so bad on balance, no idea who I was. I took a couple of cards in for her to choose one of them to send to a very old friend of hers in London. I wrote a few lines and asked her if she wanted to sign it. She couldn't but I asked her how she wanted me to sign it for her and she said 'mum and dad'. Who knows what goes on in there.
I had a chat to mum's neighbour who was telling me that her husband died 38 years ago. She was looking pensively at the ancient mulberry tree in the garden that is supposed to be 400 years old. She then looked at me rather sadly and said that its almost as long as they were married.
