Soggy Poppy
Today I did a day trip with my sister, Hubby and a friend to one of the the Whisky distilleries in our area. This is a family run boutique business producing high quality Rye and Malt whisky as well as brandy and liquors.
We then drove to nearby Mohndorf where the poppy fields are in full bloom. It was raining heavily so we sheltered in the cosy restaurant and had lunch. I ate a schnitzel which had been crumbed with a poppy seed mixture then we all had the famous local delicacy Mohnnudeln which are a bit like gnocchi made from potato flour and sprinkled with ground poppy seed, rum, butter and icing sugar. It was still raining when we had finished so we drove to the poppy fields instead of walking and photographed through the car windows. I did jump out for a few minutes - this poppy was standing tall but most of them were looking decidedly worse for wear (see extra).
