Spider in Thistle
Shot outside in a brief interlude between showers this morning to photograph my globe thistles, Echinops ritro, which had nearly all come into full bloom. The flowers looking like birthday candles had to be appropriate for me today - but obviously faaar tooooo many candles so it had to be cropped, hard!!!
With bees everywhere I didn't see for ages this little chap, the most superb tiny spider hiding under one of the flowers.
The globular, pale yellow body looking almost like distressed paint, was just 2mm long - (I had to get the ruler) with a black crucifix in the centre. It's legs mirrored the shape of the flower petals and it's many eyes shone up black from the translucent body. He was so cute! This was not a two way admiration society tho' as he kept hiding behind the flower stems clearly not a happy victim for the camera!
If anyone has any idea what it is I would love to know. I think it may be Enoplognatha ovata or candy stripe spider. He must be looked at larger.
