Copenhagen - day 2

After breakfast we walked up to Tivoli Gardens where we spent the morning. On arrival we had fun laughing at ourselves in the mirrors that distort one's body image, and then the boys headed off for the thrill rides. I cannot cope with these rides so I was quite happy to watch them from below. They first did the Vertigo ride, which looked horrific and there was no way I would ever do anything like that. Two 'planes' which spin around and around and upside down at a very fast speed - both Adam and Thomas momentarily blacked out, I assume something to do with being upside down and not having enough oxygen getting to the brain. Not my idea of fun at all....this is a shot of them at the start of the ride, and I have included an extra of what the ride looks like. They then did a few more rides and after a quick lunch there, we decided to rent bikes.

Copenhagen has a fabulous public bike system whereby you can rent Boris bikes for a nominal cost (less than £2.50 and hour). All the bikes are electric bikes with wifi and satnav, so you can firstly search the destination you wish to go to and then the satnav guides you there. Cycling is very popular in Copenhagen and so there are cycle lanes throughout the city and cyclists have right of way, so it is a good way to get around. We headed off to see Rosenborg Castle (see extra pic) and then after wandering round there for a while we hopped back on to the bikes and went to see the alternate Little Mermaid - the genetically modified little mermaid, part of a collection of sculptures by Bjorn Norgaard. This is in a new square near the harbour, and in the centre is a 40 ton triumphal arc with a nine meter tall figure of a genetically modified Madonna. Around her are six other figures: Adam, Christ, Maria Magdalena, Eve, The Tripartite Capital and the Pregnant Man - all very interesting. The little mermaid is nearby, in the water.

We cycled back via Kastellet, a very well preserved old fort. It was another excellent day out, and we have been so lucky with the weather as the forecast was for rain but it was warm and dry all day.

Tomorrow...we board the cruise liner!
