Copenhagen
The advantage of a horribly early start this morning meant that we were at our hotel in Copenhagen by 10.30am. As check in was much later we left our bags and headed out to explore the city. Our hotel is centrally placed and a short distance from Nyhavn, the pretty old harbour area of Copenhagen, so it was our first stop where I took many photos, as seen in this image.
We then had an early lunch - breakfast at 6am meant we were starving by noon - and the boys had their first taste of smørrebrød, an open sandwich with a plentiful topping - but not quite enough for them as we then found a crepe kiosk and they got some chocolate crepes. As the weather was rather good, sunny and no rain, we went on a canal cruise in an open topped flat bottomed boat. It was a good way to see the city and was very informative.
After the cruise we walked around the historic area, which was absolutely bustling and full of people. I had to remind myself that today was a Thursday as it was so busy it felt like a weekend. There is a jazz festival on this week so many outdoor cafes had jazz bands playing and people were sitting in the sunshine listening to the music enjoying a drink. I have added an extra photo of the old stock exchange as the architecture is so interesting. It has a distinctive spire shaped from the tails of four dragons entwined together. You can see the four boys (including the 'older' boy) walking along the embankment.
We are now relaxing at the hotel before going out for supper - it will be an early night after our 4am start this morning!
