A slice of Lesley's life

A little bit of peace

With the school holidays in full throw, Olympic mania at fever pitch and having scheduled a job interview that requires lots of prep for next week there's been precious little peace around these parts. So it was nice to find a little of it in the heart of London. Well, actually not just here but on the tubes too. Either everyone's on holiday, at Olympic events, watching it all on telly or just heeding the advice to stay close to home but we travelled half our journey with a carriage to ourselves, unheard of.

Back to the picture - this is inside the Dean's Yard at Westminster Abbey. My niece was down in London with her Cathedral choir to sing Evensong at Westminster Abbey so me and the kids and my mom headed off to support her. It was as impressive as you can imagine being in the Abbey and, as we were supporting the choir, we got to sit alongside them in the choir stalls. Which was distracting enough for the kids for a while but overall it is fair to say they found the whole experience pretty dull which has at least stopped Anna from asking us if we will take her to church. But they managed to contain their boredom and behaved very well and my niece was delighted we were there.

Then back home for another great evening of Olympic watching - lots of swimming and the final of the women's fencing épée. The latter being particularly enjoyable as we managed to quickly understand what was going on unlike the sabre events yesterday which were beyond us.
