Skiing on the side of a volcano.

Mt Ruapehu is an active volcano, and is also home to 2 ski resorts.
The snow was very limited, but we had enough to ski / snowboard all afternoon.

The fuss and bother of putting on boots, fitting skis and wearing cumbersome clothes really put me off skiing for an afternoon.

It was my first time on skis in almost 20 years, and by the end of the afternoon, I had remembered why it was indeed worth all the bother.
I am looking forward to the snowier South island mountains now.
