Lasting well

Three weeks since they arrived the carnations in this bouquet are still looking lovely!  
We arrived a few minutes early for the 2pm appointment which was on time.  Then we were told another appointment had been booked for 2.45 and we were asked if we would mind waiting?  We hadn't been told about the second appointment but as we had some time to spare we waited.  In fact we waited until 6.45pm and he noticed my heart rate was up!  
I wonder why?  Grrr!
