Flags
This isn't my photo! It's from the Scottish government web site. It shows flags flying at the front of Scotland's parliament buildings. This was the day when the Scottish Parliament was officially opened for the year, and there was a procession down the Royal Mile to Parliament to celebrate. It was also the day of Edinburgh's Gay Pride - so another procession came down the Royal Mile a short time later! These days the idea of a Scottish government is normal, and being gay is both legal and generally accepted. But I can remember the time when both were far off in the future. I grew up gay when gay sex was illegal. I'm grateful to everyone who made both of these advances possible. Each one took decades of fighting for, but we got there.
