Idaho Cutting Horse Association Futurity
Today was the last day of the ICHA Futurity. I don't know too much about this type of ranching competition except that it involves "cutting" an individual cow from a herd and keeping them from returning to it. This was my first time attending such an event. Even though this event brings in a lot of money to the local economy, and prize winnings are in the multiple thousands of dollars, the spectator numbers are pretty much limited to other competitors and their families, friends and sponsors. The action is not quite the frenetic pace of a rodeo and to truly appreciate what's going on I suppose you would need at least some rudimentary knowledge of the aims of the competition. Sort of like sheep dog trials, although I really enjoy watching those (I also appreciated this competition and the skill involved).
I do know that cutting horses are specially trained for this task and really good ones fetch very high prices.
I've given up on my Word of the Day images for now. Too much work with everything else going on. I might take it back up down the road.
