Island of Symi

Day 13, Monday

Early alarm call for 6.30 (unheard of, on holiday!) we 4 had to collect our continental breakfast from our restaurant at 7, walk up the hill for a coach at 7.20 to take us into Rhodes Town, where we picked up the 9am sea ferry to the island of Symi.

After a two hour crossing, a bit choppy here and there, we first caught sight of the Turkish coast, then the island of Symi. Our first stop was to visit the historic old monastery, where every ship is welcomed in by a peel of bells!! After a quick tour around and a visit to their museum, we were back on board to be ferried around the other side of the island, where their main harbour and town is, stopping for pictures in St. George's Bay en route.

Coming into Symi itself is quite a sight, so quaint and picturesque, exactly like the pictures we'd seen, but better, obviously!!
Full of colourful little three storey houses.

We left the ferry and spent a few hours exploring on our own, we had lunch in a local taverna, some ice cream, and gallons of water!! It was quite hot there, as the bay is horseshoe shaped and very protected from the elements.

Once we were at sea again, the captain forewarned us of some large swells we were to encounter....which we did, I'm not a great sailor, but was ok, thankfully! By the time we had got back into Rhodes Town, walked to our coach, driven back, dropping off as we went, it was 7.35pm ......rather a long and tiring day, but very enjoyable.

We agreed to meet up again in an hour with our friends, to round off the day with a meal in the hotel, before watching the footy!! The meal was gorgeous, unlike the football, which was pathetic!

Goodnight all, goodnight England !!
