Breakey Blips

A measure of democracy

This voting "slip" is a mere 1 metre and is used to vote for our upper house,or senate.

The kids were intrigued by the ballot papers when they were delivered to the house for David's postal vote. Obviously he won't be casting a vote this year, so they decided to have a go themselves before it was destroyed.
There are 2 ways to vote for the senators in our preferential voting system; you can vote above the line for political parties, and you need to number 6 that you wish to use your vote for. Alternatively, it is possible to vote for individual candidates, and this year, you only need to number a minimum of 12. In previous years, I have lost count of the 87 candidates and missed a number out. That caused me to search all the boxes in the metre long paper, not easy in a booth that is all of 70cm wide!

Some of the parties represented are quite extreme and others are a bit silly. For instance, the pirate party!

All will be revealed on Saturday night. Having seen the Brexit results, goodness knows what will happen here!
