Large skipper

Although it was sunny at times today it was very wet underfoot and everything was drenched! I went out for a quick trip to the local Southwater woods, but I didn't stay long as the weather conditions combined with the verdant vegetation meant an excess of vampire horse flies intent on my blood even through a pair of leggings!!
This Marsh thistle Cirsium palustre, was being visited by numerous insects including this very beautiful Large skipper Ochlodes sylvanus,  a cheeky little butterfly common in these parts.
I hope tomorrow is better, only summer is whizzing by with not a lot to show!
