The dangers of combing one's hair

Here is Phil Bowyer, local archaeologist, standing beside the famous stone that was hurled by King Arthur from King's Crags at Guinevere, who sat on Queen's Crags combing her hair. Arthur apparently lost patience and hurled the rock the quarter of a mile or so towards his queen. She used the comb to deflect the rock.

You can see the marks made by the tines of the comb. There are also some cup marks (ancient rock art) on this rock.

Phil looks serious, but he has just been telling me this, and other Arthurian legends with great enthusiasm. We went to do a recci for an Archaeology walk for the Autumn Walking Festival. This will be a cracking walk. He has so many different sites from various epochs of history to show the walkers.

We have a major problem, which is that the track to the start of the walk is in a poor shape and really needs four wheel drive vehicles to cope with it. Thinking caps to go on and sort this one out I'm afraid.

As you can see the weather was glorious. I started the day with a visit to the dentist to have my new crown replaced. I was very happy with it, but it has to be dealt with carefully so no more butter mintoes for me!
