Father's Day Epistle
Ocht look, isn't that lovely? The weans and me. Me and the weans. Well, it was Father's Day, so descend they did. For chocolate cake and fizzy wine and raspberries. As is traditional. And I received the traditional gifts of a bottle of beer, ladybird book and a small stuffed mouse on a trapeze.
And then another treat - a twentieth anniversary screening of Trainspotting up at the Film Festival. Beezer, indeed. Town is alive with the filming of Trainspotting II so apparently there were rumours that the stars may pop in; they didn't of course. Though one of Ewan McGregor's daughters was there. Clearly she didn't spot me.
So, the despicable killing of MP Jo Cox. Was the culprit mad or just bad or a bit of both in some unknown measure? And how come the Tories, Labour, Liberals, Greens, Snippers, Trade Unions, Industry and the churches are all in favour of remain but we might end up voting leave? I guess that all the above make 'yes, immigration must be addressed' type noises but actually, it can't be. And lots of folks actually don't like it. Within the EU, the only way to deter mass immigration is to make the country less appealing. In historic times the weather and horrible native food was enough to keep the Europeans away. That and strict presbyterianism. Secularism, synthetic food and fabrics have a lot to answer for.
